Halloween
03:07
|
|||
Not prepared for what this means.
The train on Halloween glides us to our separation.
Silent side by side. Our costumes don’t unite.
A vampire nurse and Detective Clueless.
Not my scene, just forget what it’s like to remember
Halloween, just forget what it’s like to remember
Brakes, the scream of metal sparks.
A white light blankets cars. The sound and fury, immolating.
We freeze in twisted frames. Trapped by costumed craze.
Everything, it’s all derailing
Dress my wounds, can’t forget what it’s like to remember
Palest moon, can’t forget what it’s like to remember

The swing behind jj’s
off of old Montgomery
with weed we bought at school.
I still see you pushing
if ever so inviting
smiling miles wide.
The golden rod the backdrop
parroting my Mother ‘time for dinner, dears’
from the kitchen window
the panic now is pulsing
"everyone outside,
inside!"
This disintegrating picture
blurry on that swing set
your mousey hair in vines.
In Sadie Knox I’m sitting
first stop from your funeral.
The plastic slide is gone.
30 years behind us
your killer was a cancer; a Viking buying time.
All these new buildings
taking up your space here
taking up our time.
I can’t hear your voice, dear, I can’t see your hair but I’ll always have that time.
That’s mine.

Everybody Has A Darkness
04:33
|
|||
When we met we were a perfect design
We huddled in the smoked halls
And chucked through glass the pool balls
You were choking back whiskey and fire
I was keeping up and dreaming
Of a world ablaze and screaming
Everybody’s got a darkness inside
Everybody’s got something to hide
Even darkness has a petulant light
Everybody’s got darkness inside
There we were falling down by the gate
If you cross through you won’t marry
It didn’t seem so scary
You were Texas in a Smith College town
We were blinded by each other
And electric Johnny Walker
Last I heard you were talking to stars
The ones that light up Portland
With an elemental crisis
Your final wish came in late ‘99
You said “welcome to the zeros,
welcome to the zeros"

Gentle
03:41
|
|||
There's a horse across the field
like you always hoped you'd see
But it's distant, it is slumbered, and it has stalled.
So the dog begins its chase to retrieve the labored friend.
As you freeze to watch the speed of restless want.
Of restless want.
As you take the first few steps toward the animal you need.
You see such strange fruit, you see wind-blown, and you see bruised.
You're now close enough to tell that the animal you seek is the victim of the hand that sells his name.
That sells his name.
It is nothing for your palm to reach into the band and remove the silver steel and hammer down.
"Well I had to do it Christ" yells the man in final plight.
Just before the single casing hits the road.
It hits the road.
"Who am I to earn the right to be saved by savage might, who are you to cast decision with such force?"
"I am tattered" I do say "I beget the life I stole. But you are perfect, you are tested, and you're still bold. You are solemn, you are gentle, and you are bold. Yes, you are bold."

Snow Covered Volcano
03:33
|
|||
Everything seems safer when I'm wearing masks that save me
from all the fear that leaps around and shakes my hands.
No one ever notices.
I keep the fooling shield up to save me from the mornings with my burning brain.
Snow covered volcano
Anxious by the morning light, but tempered by your safety.
I'm longing for the days to crack and leak their secrets to me.
Seething from this open wound that never found its sources.
I can't beat the fever that runs through my days.
And I lie like you but mean no harm.
Trying to hide from this electric charge
that I can't control, and you can't see.
Snow covered volcano.
